With summit views during the day and cozy inns at night, the region offers a rare mix of backcountry beauty and creature comfort.

  • Day 1: Arrive in Cold Spring, a popular riverside town with deep Revolutionary War history
  • Day 2: Hike through Hudson Highlands State Park (options for ~4.5 miles moderate or can add mileage for views on Breakneck Ridge), end back in Cold Spring
  • Day 3: Hike mostly on the Appalachian Trail (~8 miles moderate level), optional short detour to Anthony's Nose for a panoramic view of the river, and cross the iconic Bear Mountain Bridge into the state park
  • Day 4: Depart
